Eyewitnesses said they had to insist on the driver transporting the injured man to the hospital in his car. The driver who is said to be from Georgetown and was heading in the direction of Rosignol has been taken into police custody. Persons suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol.

They told Stabroek News that Alli had already crossed the road and was hit in the corner. He landed on the bonnet of the car and after the driver applied brakes he rolled off and ended up on the “stop line for the pedestrian crossing,” about 15 ft away.

When this newspaper visited the scene blood marks were observed at the corner of the crossing and on the line. A small crowd had gather and persons were wondering how the man could have been hit on the crossing.

“The mark is showing where he was hit. As long as the man crossing there, he [driver] was supposed to stop…,” residents lamented. They said Alli’s “whole face buss up” after he fell off the car.

His father, Sam Alli said his son left home around 4 pm “to go out on the road.” He received a message about the accident but by the time he got to the scene he had already been taken to the hospital. He later learnt that Alli succumbed.
