Corentyne woman killed in Antigua plane crash

Williamsburg, Corentyne resident Sandrama Poligadu was killed in the plane crash at V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua on Sunday afternoon.

Poligadu, 57, lived at Lot 4 B Williamsburg, Corentyne with her husband, two daughters, son-in-law and grandchild.

When Stabroek News spoke to her son, Kisnasammy Poligadu, he said that the family received the shocking message from his brother-in-law, Trishan Khan. He added that they receive the message via telephone sometime around 4pm.

“After my brother-in-law waited at the airstrip and did not see my mother he went and asked authorities about the flight, he was told of the plane crash,” Poligadu said.

Poligadu added that his mother left Guyana on Sunday Morning 05:30h on a flight to Trinidad, from where she was taking a chartered flight to Antigua and then to Montserrat.

Stabroek News understands that Sandrama was flying in to Montserrat to assist her pregnant daughter, Rajama, called ‘Tina,’ who is expected to give birth sometime soon and is currently hospitalised.

Her son added that the family is awaiting the return of her body to Guyana so that they can make funeral arrangements.

Poligadu is survived by her husband, six children, and nine grandchildren.

Two other persons, the Captain, Jason Forbes of Antigua and Annya Duncan of Jamaica, died in the crash of the FlyMontserrat twin-engine plane, which crashed into the runway just after takeoff.

A British citizen, identified as Michael Hudson, remains in critical condition at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre on the island.
