(Trinidad Express) A murder accused prisoner, who three times before used trickery to escape custody, fooled police a fourth time on Monday.
Leston Elvis had both arms in casts when he allegedly assaulted a police officer and escaped custody outside the Siparia Police Station.
Elvis, 31, allegedly kicked his police escort in the shin and pushed him to the ground.
The prisoner, who is also known as Kirby Pamphile, of Wharton Trace, Laventille, Manjack Street, Vistabella, and Indian Walk, Princes Town, left in a car waiting nearby.
Elvis is charged with the murder of Lennox Bellerand Junior, who was shot and killed at Success/Laventille Health Centre on November 12, 2009.
He is also charged with the possession of arms and ammunition in connection with the killing.
In December, 2009, Elvis escaped from Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was taken by police for a self-inflicted wound.
He pushed a police officer at the Casualty Department and escaped.
He was recaptured at a house at Indian Walk three days later.
On September 23, 2010, Elvis escaped from St Ann’s Hospital after being sent there seven months earlier for a psychiatric evaluation and report.
He was recaptured, but in February 2011, Elvis scaled the wall of Remand Yard at the Port of Spain prison while awaiting breakfast in the airing yard.
He was caught shortly after in a house near the prison.
On Monday, he was brought to Siparia Magistrates’ Court where he has pending matters of possession of marijuana and for driving without a driver’s permit and driving without a certificate of insurance.
The cases were adjourned to November 5.
Police said Elvis, who was not handcuffed because of the casts, was transported from the courthouse to the police station two buildings away in a patrol car.
It was while being taken from the car that Elvis allegedly fled through the main gate and entered a white B-15 Sentra parked at a nearby public park.
Up until yesterday he was still on the run.
