Woman disfigured in hot oil attack by neighbour

A woman says she has been disfigured after being doused with hot cooking oil mixed with another substance, suspected to be bleach.

Latoya Glynn, 26, of 34 East La Penitence was allegedly doused with the mixture by a neighbour, who is currently being sought by the police.

The attack, which occurred on Monday, is believed to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Glynn and the woman.

Latoya Glynn shows her bandaged mid section after she was doused with hot oil by a neighbour on Monday.

A medical Glynn received from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) says that she suffered burns to the abdomen, the chest, the face and multiple burn speckles on her upper limbs.

Speaking with Stabroek News, Glynn recalled that around 10:45am on Monday she was in her own backyard and overheard her neighbour talking about her. “She was saying, ‘Why ’Toya don’t make haste dead…?’ Why I don’t crash up and dead?

So, we had an exchange of words and she was telling me, ‘I gon show you, yuh can’t left your house today. I got a example fuh show you, because me ain’t going back in front of no magistrate for stupidness this time’,” Glynn relayed.

She noted that they have been in court on several occasions, with the most recent being on October 1, when they were placed on a bond to keep the peace after a threatening language charge was dismissed.

Glynn recalled that shortly after she overheard her neighbour on Monday, she exited her front door and was proceeding to her vehicle when her neighbour approached her with a pan and threw its contents onto her.

“I was going out to my car to leave and just as I step out, she throw this hot oil with something in it… I hear she send to buy a bottle of bleach, so I think is that,” she explained.

Glynn said she rushed to the East Ruimveldt Police Station, where she was provided with a medical for treatment at the GPH. She was treated and sent away, she added.

Back at her home, Glynn said the police retrieved the pan, which was left at the scene along with broken window panes that resulted from the attack.

Her neighbour is said to be on the run. “The police went for her but she done gone. She is the caretaker for the house, really, and she is living there with her two children,” she said.  According to Glynn, she was born and raised at East La Penitence while her attacker moved there some four to five years ago.

Initially, she said, they had been friends but subsequently ended up in a dispute as a result of “jealousy and greed.” The woman is hoping that anybody with information on the whereabouts of her attacker to make contact with the police.
