Police decentralizing internal probe unit

The Guyana Police Force says that in its continuing effort to improve the quality of service to the public it decentralised the operations of the Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) with effect from Wednesday.

The OPR is the unit that investigates complaints against members of the police force.

The police announcement comes amid rising public anger and pressure for reforms following the killing of two young men by cops in separate incidents.

In addition to its main office at Force Headquarters, Eve Leary, other offices are now located at the following Police locations:

‘A’ Division – Divisional Headquarters, Brickdam, Georgetown

‘B’ Division – Divisional Headquarters, LFS Burnham Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice

‘C’ Division – Divisional Headquarters, Cove and John, ECD

‘D’ Division – Divisional Headquarters, Leonora, WCD

‘E&F Division – Mackenzie Police Station
Bartica Police Station
Lethem Police Station

Mabaruma Police Station

‘G’ Division –  Divisional Headquarters, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast
