Puran died from drowning – post-mortem

Attorney-at-law Vickramaditya `Vic’ Puran who was discovered dead in his partially submerged vehicle early Tuesday morning died as a result of asphyxia due to drowning, a post-mortem examination conducted yesterday has revealed.

Police said in a press release that around 0645 hours Puran was found in his motor vehicle in a canal at Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony. Police officials said that from all indications, Puran, a prominent criminal lawyer, was the victim of an accident.

According to reports, Puran left his Kitty home around 5:20 pm on Monday (which was also his 57th birthday) for his farm at Mahaicony. He was going to take feed for his pigs.

It is suspected that when approaching a sharp turn at an area referred to as the Mahaicony Branch Road he lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle in the trench.

After not being able to reach him, his wife Amanda contacted several of his friends and she ventured up the East Coast in search of him but came up empty handed.

She would have passed the spot where his body was eventually found.

Puran a father of four was hailed as an outstanding figure of the legal profession. He was a former magistrate and state prosecutor.

He represented a number of high profile persons including self- confessed drug lord Roger Khan and Barry Dataram. He was also the special prosecutor and defence counsel in several high profile cases in the local courts.
