Vendor charged with snatching $500K gold-band

One half of a duo alleged to have robbed a woman of a $500,000 gold band was yesterday charged.

Trevor Wayne, a vendor, was placed on $75,000 bail after he was arraigned in front of Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

Wayne pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to Prosecutor Winneth Hubbard, on October 19, in Georgetown, Wayne, 24, of Lot 25 Melanie Public Road, stole the gold band from Shaneka Bharkhan.

Hubbard said Bharkhan was walking on Regent Street, when Wayne— accompanied by another man—approached her and snatched the band from her hand. Wayne is then alleged to have thrown the band to his accomplice and he made good his escape.

Wayne was later caught by police officers and arrested and charged.

The prosecution had no objections to bail and Magistrate Lovell then set it at $75,000.

The case is to be called again on November 2 in Court One for reports and fixtures.
