Up to press time yesterday, Anna Regina Police were reportedly holding the two men believed to be the perpetrators of the crime in custody. Relatives state that the other man has not been identified, and that they are not sure if he was released. However, the police have indicated that they have come across additional evidence in the case and will be taking further action shortly.

Ramnarine, 66, was killed during a robbery on Wednesday. He was beaten and strangled with a mosquito net by the bandits and his bound and battered body was discovered in the lower flat of his home by his wife.

The man’s wife, Hemwantie Ramnarine, who was also attacked during the robbery, had said that sometime around 11:30 on Wednesday evening she was confronted by two men. “We just done kill yuh husband, and we gon do the same to you,” they told her. She stated that one of the men brandished a cutlass which she attempted to hold onto to protect her self but was eventually subdued, tied and beaten.

Hemwantie stated that some time after the men had left, she managed to free herself and immediately went looking for her husband, who she found lying motionless in the lower flat of their home. She said when she found him, he had injuries to his head and his hands were tied behind his back and a piece of cloth wrapped around his neck. The man was rushed to the Suddie hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination would later reveal that though Herman Ramnarine received blunt force trauma to the head, he succumbed to asphyxiation caused by the mosquito netting tied around his neck.
