16-year-old Trini charged with having 3 guns

(Trinidad Express) A 16-year-old boy appeared in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with having three guns.

The teenager was arrested last Saturday at Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, after police allegedly found him with a handgun with .38 ammunition.

He was also charged with having two home-made shotguns and one round of 12-gauge ammunition, which were allegedly recovered after a search warrant was executed at his home.

Charges were laid by constable Christopher Ramdhanie and Roger Skeete of the Freeport Police Station.

The teenager’s attorney Sunil Seecharan said his client was an active member of the Open Bible Church and both parents were in court.

Seecharan said his client had recently graduated from school but had to pursue Mathematics and English subjects once more.

Magistrate Gillian Scotland granted the boy $80,000 bail and ordered that he return to court November 26.

Two brothers also appeared in the Chaguanas court on Monday charged with robbery and possession of arms and ammunition.

Nicholas Jaglal, 22, and brother Brandon, 18, of Claxton Bay were charged with using personal violence and being armed with a gun during a robbery in Caparo Road last Friday.

Nicholas Jaglal was also charged with having a .38 firearm with four rounds of ammunition with intent to endanger life, and with shooting at Acting Corporal Kubir, Constable Ramdeen and WPC Briggs, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Brandon Jaglal was charged separately with driving at a dangerous pace, without insurance or a driver’s permit.

Defence attorney Joseph Honore said Brandon was a Fifth Form pupil and his brother a labourer. Sergeant Michael Jackman objected to bail.

He said the crimes were serious and the men had allegedly acted together.

It is alleged that two men robbed Ramdeo Ramhawan, owner of a video club, of jewelry and a Nissan Almera motorcar last Friday.

The men were later intercepted and arrested by police.

Scotland placed Brandon on $65,000 bail and Nicholas on $135,000 bail.

They are to return to court on November 26.
