Residents of Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) can breathe a sigh of relief now that the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has brought their water woes to a much anticipated end.
When Stabroek News visited the once water starved community yesterday, residents said they were no longer experiencing the water troubles that had plagued them since August of this year.
Among the problems experienced by residents were: low water pressure, murky water, and in the worse cases, no running water for as much as six days at a time. Many of them had resorted to purchasing bottled water for most of their needs. All of these woes has started after GWI conducted repairs on the nearby Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station.
GWI had responded to these complaints in a press release stating that its Divisional Operations Manager on the ECD Orlando Benjamin had conducted an outreach programme on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday October 21st in which he informed affected customers that the service disruption was due to operational difficulties at the Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station, which serves a significant section of Dazzel. Benjamin explained that blocked screens in the well were the main cause of the problem.
The release went on to state that the GWI East Coast team was, at the time, working to modify the network serving the community so as to provide relief until repairs to the Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station were completed.
Whether the current solution is permanent or temporary is unknown as this newspaper, despite numerous attempts, was unable to contact GWI for a comment. What is clear is that the residents of Dazzel are much happier with the current situation.
