T&T family offers TT$50,000 reward, erects billboard to find killer

(Trinidad Express) The family of slain Freeport pensioner Indra Gangabissoon continue on their personal quest to find her killer or killers.

Over the last three months, the family has been offering TT$50,000 for information to assist the police in their investigation.

The reward has been placed through Crime Stoppers and advertised in the daily newspapers, but with little result.

Last weekend, the family paid for a billboard to be erected along the Solomon Hochoy Highway, on which thousands of commuters travel daily.

Gangabissoon, 78, a mother of six, died at hospital on April 14 from massive head injuries two days after she was bludgeoned by a thief or thieves who stole her pension money.

She suffered a fractured skull and broken jaw and her eyes were swollen shut.

Her husband, Sugrim, 93, was also beaten on his head and suffered brain damage. He is an academic scholar, author and teacher of Hinduism and Sanskrit.

The attack on the couple occurred at their home in Carapichaima after they returned from the bank.

Three months ago, on offering the reward, the elderly couple’s son-in-law, Gerry Shaffer, a Canadian resident, said: “I would never forgive such an act nor the individuals who perpetrated such an act.”
