Courts ‘high tech’ Xmas light up thrills crowd

The annual Courts Christmas Tree Light Up utilised the latest technology this year, which saw Prime Minister Sam Hinds using a Samsung tablet to remotely ‘slide’ the lights on yesterday before a thrilled audience, following a countdown by several children.

Meanwhile, customer Angela Seales drove away with the second of seven cars that the furniture and appliances store is giving away in its Christmas promotion.

The programme, dubbed “Feel the Magic this Christmas” which got off to a late start, saw scores of people flocking outside the Courts (Guyana) Inc Main Street store to enjoy the festivities.

With radio personalities DJ Casual and Wanita Huburn doing MC duties, the gathering was treated to songs by Lisa Punch, Jackie Hanover and a Courts choir and performances by the National School of Dance, the National Dance Company, the Guyana Defence Force Band and masquerade dancers.

They were witness too to the overwhelming joy of Seales as she was presented with the keys to her new Nissan Note car.

Managing Director of Courts Clyde De Haas, who handed over the key to Seales, urged more people to shop at Courts to have the chance of being in Seales’ position.

Giving a special message to the crowd Prime Minister Hinds reflected on his childhood at Christmas time and the joys he felt as child. Also addressing the crowd was acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali, who revealed that this Christmas season will see three days of the Main Big Lime and a Grand Ball at Palm Court on Old Year’s Night.

For the children, who were in the overwhelming majority, the highlight of the evening was the arrival of the procession which included Santa Claus, doing the “Gangnam Style” dance, Mrs Claus, Spiderman, Batman, SpongeBob, Dora and Mickey Mouse, among other familiar cartoon characters.
