Craig robbery, shooting survivor released from hospital

Morvin Marcus, who was shot and injured during the robbery of an Edun Farms’ truck, was yesterday discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital despite the fact that a bullet is still lodged in his spine.

His co-worker Aga Khan, 56, of 20 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was fatally shot to the neck by one of the four robbers during the attack carried out at Busby Dam, Craig, EBD.

Marcus, 22, of Lot 714 Kaneville, Grove, EBD, was shot to the shoulder.
When contacted yesterday, the wounded man’s father, Allwyn Marcus, told Stabroek News that he was told that the bullet could not be removed since it may become life threatening if doctors attempt to operate. “I heard that since the first night when he did the x-ray… I asked the doctor then and there he said it would be risky because it’s his spine. I won’t say it is in a dangerous position but if they do try he mightn’t make it,” the man said.

He added that his son is resting at home and is not moving briskly or talking much for the time being. He further stated that working is not an option for the near future either.

Marcus said the police are yet to contact the family for an update into the robbery and that his son’s belongings, including a BlackBerry cellular phone, remain lodged at the station. The man had previously expressed a specific interest in retrieving the phone from the police but was told that it has to be kept to conduct investigations.

Stabroek News was unable to establish contact with Khan’s relatives to enquire about the results of the post-mortem examination.

Police had made one arrest following the November 6 incident but have since relayed to this newspaper that the individual was released.

Stabroek News was told that Khan, who was at the time driving a Canter truck, was shot to the neck and died instantly while Marcus was shot to the right shoulder leaving the bullet lodged in his spine. A third man, who was sitting between the two men in the vehicle, escaped unharmed.
