Man chopped by goat thieves recovering

Rudolph Mayers, who was chopped by thieves who tried to steal several of his goats, is recovering from his injuries as he remains a patient of the Male Surgical Unit  of the Georgetown Hospital.

From his hospital bed Mayers told this newspaper that he is feeling much better but is still seeing blurred from his left eye, due to the chop he received there. He also mentioned that he hopes to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow so that he can be home with his family again.

Mayers of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was dealt several chops with a cutlass by thieves who were about to steal seven of his goats. He was inquiring from the men why they were taking his animals away when one of them pulled out a cutlass and started to chop him. The thieves, who are well known in the area, are still to be arrested.
