Gospel singer Cece Winans for Gospel Festival 2013

Cece Winans and a 15-member troupe are scheduled to perform in Guyana on January 26 at the National Stadium as part of the Gospel Festival 2013.

The festival, titled ‘Fulfilment,’ is being organised by former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Yog Mahadeo’s company, Inspire Inc.

Winans’ performance is on contract, Mahadeo, the CEO of Inspire, told a press conference yesterday. She and her troupe will be performing along with other artists at the festival, which was once held by GT&T. The budget for the show is estimated to be around $60 million.

Mahadeo said it is hoped it will be held in January every year and provide the necessary motivation that brings the entire country and people together.

He also noted that a surprise package is also planned for the show.

When asked, Mahadeo said that they have not received any concessions from government but he encouraged the corporate community, including GT&T who they have written to seeking sponsorship, and the government to come on board.

Inspire Inc was created about a year now and is involved in activities such as literacy.

The company’s ideal purpose is still to be established, said Mahadeo, who did not identify other members of the company at yesterday’s press conference.

Mahadeo also stated that he is now involved in a few businesses and is focused on giving back to the country.

Mahadeo, who said he felt “betrayed,”  resigned as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GT&T in June after he was advised of a “lapse of internal control” that occurred under his watch.

“While I had paid careful attention to the entire company’s image and built our public profile, the inner controls were slipping,” Mahadeo said a statement.

He added that through the years he had built a lot of bridges for the company, crossed swords, argued and created. “I thank you all; thanks to those who have loved and loved to hate,” he had said.
