Mahdia accident survivor succumbs

Michael Prince, who was one of the two survivors of an accident at Mahdia last week Wednesday that claimed the life of a man, died on Wednesday at Georgetown Hospital, days after he complained of experiencing severe pain.

Prince, 50, of Belmont, Mahaica, was a patient of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was initially thought to have been recovering from his injuries. However, his condition took a turn for the worse on Monday, when he began to experience high fever, his brother Errol Prince stated yesterday.

The accident claimed the life of Keith Paul, 40, of No 1 Road, Corentyne, Berbice, who died on the spot after he was pitched out of the car he was travelling in when it turned over along the Airstrip Road, at Mahdia.

Prince and Shawn Simon, 40, of 111 Miles, Mahdia, were also in the car and they sustained injuries as well.

Prince had sustained a spinal injury in the accident, which left him with no feeling from his waist down. His neck was also fractured. His brother said that when he visited him in the hospital on Tuesday, he had just finished an x-ray but he complained about the intense pain he was feeling about his body. He was shocked to learn of his brother’s death since he had hopes of him recovering from his injuries.

Meanwhile, Simon, is still in a critical condition in the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU). He suffered internal injuries.
