Driver charged in death of former NCN cameraman

Panwar Dass was placed on $600,000 bail yesterday at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court after he was charged with causing the death of cameraman Ronald Livingstone by dangerous driving.

Livingstone, a former National Communications Network (NCN) cameraman, died on Saturday night following a road accident at Ogle, East Coast Demerara. He was struck down while riding his motorcycle by Dass, 25, of 209 Second Field, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Zamina Ali, who granted him bail in the sum of $600,000. Dass is required to report to the Vigilance Police Station every Friday until his next court appearance, which is set for January 17, 2013 at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

On Saturday, around 7 pm, Livingstone, 37, of Lot 2240 Section ‘C’ Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was riding his motorcycle on the Ogle Airstrip road when he was struck by motor car PMM 5352, which was driven by Dass. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he subsequently died.
