The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) said 18 persons from the Region 10 Regional Democratic Council were trained in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) from November 19-28 and the region presented with an emergency kit to boost its capacity to respond to disaster.

According to a press release, personnel from the RDC, NDC, various communities and NGOs participated in the exercise which was conducted with support from the United Nations Development Programme.

Eighteen persons were trained as Shelter Managers, 18 underwent training in Damage Assessment and 17 were trained in Emergency Operations centre Management. Each workshop constituted content presentations using multi-media, tabletop and functional exercises along with written evaluations.
In addition to the capacity building workshops, Operations and Training officer Major Kester Craig presented an emergency kit to Regional Vice Chairman Byron Lewis and Deputy REO Maylene Stephen. The kit contains both regional and national maps; emergency states/charts, flashlights, stationery and other supplies that will be useful during the activation and operation of the Regional Emergency Operations Centre.  Similar workshops started in Region One on Monday and will continue until December 10. On completion of this training session, the CDC would have successfully conducted DRM training in six of the ten regions. This initiative will continue next year with training in regions Two, Five, Eight and Nine.
