Taxi service owner accused of assaulting policeman

A taxi service owner was released on self-bail yesterday after denying that he assaulted a police constable.

Kwame Anderson, of 449 Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful assault causing actual bodily to a police constable and behaving disorderly when they were read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.

The prosecution said that on November 30, Anderson unlawfully assaulted a police constable who spoke to him and he later behaved disorderly.

No particulars relating to the charges were released in court. After Anderson was released on his own recognisance, the case was adjourned until December 10, when it will be called at Court 10.
