Three air-dashed to city after Port Kaituma accident

Three people, including a teen, were air-dashed to the city for emergency medical treatment on Thursday after an accident at Port Kaituma, in Region One and one of them has since been released from hospital.

Enid Leon, 36, and Pauline Williams, 15, both of the North West District and Harry Burnett, of Stevedore Housing Scheme, East Ruimveldt, were in a pick-up that toppled several times after the driver lost control.

Leon and Williams are still patients at the Georgetown Hospital while Harry Burnett was said to be discharged.
Leon, who is related to Williams, said that Williams sustained a broken spine and internal injuries.  Leon of Arakaka sustained a broken left knee cap. She also complained of pain in her stomach.

The mother of one said they were in the vehicle which was coming down from Arakaka around 9 am on Thursday.

She related to this newspaper, “It was raining and the driver who is meh son-in-law loss control of de vehicle and it run off de road because de road was slippery.”

Leon said she was knocked unconscious and when she regained her senses, she was at the Port Kaituma Hospital.

She said they were all subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Hospital.
Leon further stated that she is constantly been visited by her daughter.

Meanwhile, a source from the Port Kaituma area told Stabroek News that the driver was unharmed and is currently assisting police with the investigation.
