Two charged over cocaine noodles

A computer technician/exporter and a porter were today remanded to prison, when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for allegedly trafficking over 20 kilos of cocaine in noodles.

It is alleged that on December 6 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, Adrian David, 23, porter, of Lot 192 Plantain Walk, West Demerara and Obrian White, 23, a Computer Technician/Exporter, of Lot 33 San Souci, Wakenaam, had in their possession a narcotic that is to say 21.87 kilos of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Both men denied the charge.

Facts from the prosecution stated that on the date in question at about 08:30 hrs, officers from the narcotics branch conducted a search on cargo which was destined for Ontario, Canada.

Prosecutor Steven Telford said that ranks discovered 41 bags of mangoes and an assortment of noodles. Macaroni had been replaced by drinking straws in six boxes and they contained a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.

He also said that the two men were then arrested and charged with the present

offence after seeking legal advice.

He then made a submission that the men be remanded to prison.

Attorney Peter Hugh, who represented both of the accused, said that his clients are both innocent of the accusation put against them.

Hugh further noted that White went to ship a package but there was no evidence which tied the two to the narcotics; adding that David was just a porter at the airport.

The men were then refused bail.

The duo will make their next appearance on December 14 for reports and fixtures.
