Giftland OfficeMax donated gifts to 12 orphanages and shelters yesterday at the launch of its ‘12 Deals of Christmas’ promotion.

The promotion will commence today and continue until December 23. During this period, Giftland OfficeMax will have a different deal each day for shoppers. The promotion was launched yesterday at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street.

“The goal is to reach every orphanage and shelter,” Public Relation Manager Compton Babb told reporters at the launch.

Babb added that when the idea to give back to 12 orphanages this Christmas was conceived, he didn’t expect the task to be arduous. “During the research, my eyes were opened to see the need of these children,” he said. “That’s why it is significant for us [Giftland OfficeMax] to give back to you. We want you to know that Giftland cares and we’re here for you,” he added.

According to Babb, Giftland expects to donate gifts to the communities of Berbice, Essequibo, and Linden this year and in the future. The company has been donating hampers to the Tigerbay community over the last few years.

The donation to the 12 orphanages and shelters is valued $700,000. The homes that will benefit are: Berbice Anjuman Orphanage, Camal International Home for Battered Women and Homeless Children, Hauraruni Girls Home, the Joshua House Children’s Centre, the Red Cross Convalescent Home, the Shaheed Girls Orphanage, St Ann’s Girls Orphanage, the Drop-in-Centre for Children, the Cornelia Ida Children’s Home, Ruimveldt Children’s Home, Divine Charitable Society in Enmore and the Palms.

“Giftland has being donating to the Palms over the past years,” said a staff member of the Palms geriatric home. The woman said the contributions have brightened Christmas for the residents each year.

“We want to give our thanks to the owner and staff at Giftland for the little gifts at Christmas,” a bold young boy of Cornelia Ida Children’s Home said.
