Two police constables caught red-handed taking bribe

The police today said that two Police Constables are presently under close arrest after they were caught red-handed returning a stolen lap top computer to the owner who had given them a sum of money for the return of the article.

Police say that on December 24, 2012, a taxi-driver and his three passengers were held up by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, at Haslington North, ECD, during which two lap top computers, a quantity of jewellery, three cell phones and a sum of cash were taken away from the victims by the perpetrators who escaped on a motor cycle.

During yesterday, police investigators received information that the two Police Constables had approached the owner of one of the computers and had received a sum of money from him for the return of the computer. The computers had not been recovered by the police investigators during the course of the ongoing investigations, police said today.

A sting operation was set up and the two ranks were found with the stolen lap top computer in a house at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, police added.

The investigations are continuing.
