Jamaica wants urgent meeting with Barbados on freedom of movement

(Barbados Nation) Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Arnold Nicholson wants an urgent meeting with his Barbadian counterpart Senator Maxine McClean to discuss problems with the freedom of movement of Jamaicans to Barbados.

This comes a month after Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an official note to the Barbadian ministry asking for the allegations of 29-year-old Avia James to be investigated.

James claimed she was subjected to degrading treatment by officials of the Immigration Department at the Grantley Adams International Airport on September 24.

“I fully intend to raise the matter of freedom of movement with your minister,” Nicholson told the MIDWEEK NATION in an exclusive interview via mobile phone from Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.
