Joseph Hamilton to be Parliamentary Secretary

Former PNCR executive member Joe Hamilton, who endorsed the PPP/C party ahead of the November 28 polls, is set to become the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Health, when the Tenth Parliament is convened later this month.

Hamilton indicated to Stabroek News this morning that he would be filling one of two technocratic positions afforded to Parliamentary Secretaries in the National Assembly.  He will be a non-voting member of the House but will still be able to contribute to debates in the House.

While admitting that the area was “new” to him, Hamilton said that he would rely on his parliamentary experience to fulfill his mandate. He said that he is currently trying to understand the ministry and get acquainted with its functionaries.  “I am comfortable. I am a politician and I can make myself comfortable,” Hamilton said.  Hamilton said that in the lead up to the elections, he developed “a close and cordial relationship with the subject minister, Dr Bheri Ramsaran which should serve him well in his duties.
