Re-migrant scheme to have 500 lots by March – Ali

Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali has said the development of a re-migrant housing scheme at Providence is on track and it expects to have at least 500 lots completed by March.

In an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), Ali said more than 45% of development works for the scheme has been completed, while noting that the ministry has received more than 1,200 applications from Guyanese in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, The Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Antigua.

According to Ali, although most of the requests have been for lots measuring 6,000 square feet, lots will be available from 6,000 up to 8,000 square feet.

Most of the applications were received via the internet from persons between the ages of 30 and 40 years. “We also have in excess of 100 applications with ages ranging from 20 to 29 years. This clearly shows the type of opportunities people see in Guyana,” he was quoted as saying.
