(Trinidad Express) A Point Fortin man described as a Baptist archbishop yesterday appeared in the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court on eight charges of demanding money by menace and obtaining money under false pretences.
Derick Irish, 39, who lives on Warden Road, appeared before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay in the Second Court, charged with obtaining in excess of $300,000 from two women, one of them a medical doctor, between the period October 1 and November 30 last year.
Irish, who was represented by defence attorney Kenya Murray, faced six offences which were alleged to have taken place in the Tunapuna district, and another two which were said to have taken place in Arima.
He was granted bail in the sums of TT$120,000 and TT$60,000 respectively. As a condition of his bail bond, Irish was also ordered to report to the Tunapuna Police Station twice per week.
On Thursday, officers of the St Joseph CID arrested Irish in Curepe after receiving reports from Dr Nadine Kewal and her friend Enid Collins, a former employee of the Ministry of National Security.
Irish will appear in the Arima Court on Monday. He will reappear in the Tunapuna Court, which is temporarily being held at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court due to a continuing sewerage problem.
