Elderly man mauled by two pit bulls in Campbellville

An elderly man is now battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital after two pit bulls, which had just killed another dog, turned on him, almost severing his arm, and inflicting numerous other injuries.

Shocked and outraged relatives informed Stabroek News that Mubarak Ally, 61, had just left his lot 46 Austin Street, Campbellville residence, on foot, to attend morning Masjid prayers at his place of worship, around the corner in Sandy Babb Street, when he was attacked.

Eyewitness and neighbour Latifa Pitt recounted that it was around 5 am when she heard deafening screams of “Help!” coming from in front of her yard. The woman said she sprung out of bed and rushed outside to see Ally lying on the parapet, on the opposite side, covered in blood as the two dogs held on to an arm each tearing him apart. “…If you see what de dogs doing with he. I begin screaming too and other neighbours rushed out and chase them off.”

Pitt said by this time Ally was unconscious and another neighbour summoned his wife and they then rushed him to the hospital.

It was after he had left for the hospital that neighbours realized that another dog lay dead not too far from where Ally was attacked covered in bites and blood.

One neighbour said he had heard dog yelps earlier in the morning but brushed it off as neighbourhood dogs fighting. He said shortly after he heard human screams and ran out of his home to see the injured Ally trying only to protect his face as he lay in a fetal position screaming as the dogs ravaged his arms.

He said, Ally’s wife, after taking him to the hospital, made a report to the police station and officers were quickly dispatched to the dog’s owner who was then taken to the precinct for questioning.

Ally’s relatives along with other residents of Austin Street told Stabroek News that they are angry that the two vicious dogs were allowed to roam the street at night although several complaints were made to their owner. Some indicated that even in the day they are scared to send their children out as they fear attacks by the dogs who normally escape into the streets, through an opening in the fence.

Public Relations Officer of the GPF informed that the owner of the dogs was still in police custody up to late yesterday afternoon as the police carried out investigations.

Mubarak Ally was undergoing live-saving emergency
medical surgery at the hospital late yesterday evening.
