HPV vaccine for Barbadian girls 11 and over

(Barbados Nation) Barbadian girls from 11 years old will soon start getting protection from the virus that leads to cervical cancer.

A vaccine that helps to prevent the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which leads to the development of cervical cancer, will soon be added to the immunization schedule here.

The announcement was made yesterday by Minister of Health Donville Inniss at the opening of the 28th Caribbean Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI) Managers Meeting at the Accra Beach Hotel.

Inniss said that the local EPI manager’s unit had been actively engaged in the groundwork to documenting the necessary information for the introduction of the HPV vaccine and based on the recommendations from this unit, the vaccine would be introduced.
