Supermarket supervisor charged over assault, abusive language

Survival Supermarket supervisor Sebastian Toonoo who appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court accused of assaulting and using abusive language to another  employee was placed on $15,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.

The court heard that on May 8 at Vlissengen Road, Toonoo unlawfully assaulted Mishanna Duff and also used abusive language towards her on the said date. Toonoo pleaded not guilty to the charges and made an application for bail.

In a brief statement he said that he is a 29-year-old supervisor at the supermarket and a charge should have been brought against Duff also since he too had made a report to the police.

At this point the magistrate inquired of the prosecution as to the way cross charges are filed if  only one party’s charges appear before her.

Police Prosecutor Tracymay Gittens did not object to bail but asked that some condition be applied since they both work at the same outlet of  Survival Supermarket

The magistrate then advised the supervisor that in view of the incident he should seek to have Duff transferred to another outlet of the business so as to avoid further confrontation.

She then asked both parties to agree to an undertaking  to have nothing to do with each other during the continuation of the matter.

The matter was scheduled for Court Six on May 21.
