A labourer was stabbed to death at Wineperu Backdam, Essequibo River last Saturday by a man who has since been hospitalized after being chopped by a bystander.
Dead is Nimrod Paul, 36, of Woweta Village, North Rupununi.
Police said in a press release yesterday that an investigation is being conducted into the murder which occurred around 19:30 hrs.
Investigations have so far revealed, the release said, that Paul and another labourer had a fight during which he struck the suspect with a piece of wood. The suspect retaliated and stabbed Paul several times about his body.
The release said the bystander, who saw what was happening “armed himself with a cutlass and chopped the suspect several times”. Paul died before receiving medical attention, while the suspect is currently a patient at the Georgetown Hospital.
The release added that the bystander is in police custody assisting with investigations.
