El Dorado named official rum of Caribbean Festival in Toronto

El Dorado Rum has been unveiled as the official rum of the Scotiabank Caribbean Festival 2012, formerly known as Caribana, scheduled for Toronto, Canada from July 10 to August 12.

Apart from being declared the official rum, El Dorado will also be the presenting sponsor of “An Evening of Discovery Gala” under the theme “Discover El Dorado Rum” on July 27 at The Liberty Grand Hotel in Toronto, a press release from Demerara Distillers Limited stated.

The famed rum which has won the coveted Gold Medal and Best Rum in the class trophy from the International Wines and Spirits Association for 11 years, is now widely available in Ontario and across Canada.

Scotiabank Caribbean Festival is a three-week cultural explosion featuring Caribbean music, cuisine, revelry and visual and performing arts. The festival will this year be celebrating its 45th anniversary.

Meanwhile, at a recent press conference at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Chief Executive Officer of the Festival, Denise Herrera-Jackson, expressed her enthusiasm about the anniversary edition of the festival.

This year’s celebrations may prove extra-festive for some participants, as 2012 also marks the 50th anniversary of independence for Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

During the Caribbean carnival, the ROM will launch a related exhibition “Carnival: From Emancipation to Celebration”, which will look at the historical and symbolic meanings of such celebrations.

To tie into this year’s theme of “Caring for Community”, every event staged as part of the festival will make donations to various charitable organizations, the release added.
