Defence makes no-case submission at Friendship murder trial

Attorney George Thomas yesterday made a no-case submission on behalf of his client, murder accused Sherwin Barnwell.
Thomas made the no-case submission when the trial resumed yesterday before Justice Franklyn Holder at the High Court.

The prosecution closed its case at the last hearing, but will have an opportunity to reply to Thomas’s submission when the case is called again today.

Barnwell is on trial for the murder of Nohar Bahadur who was allegedly beaten to death, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

Meanwhile, in Justice Roxane George’s court, the trial of Devon McFarlane aka ‘Kang,’ who is charged with rape, continued yesterday.

The complainant’s husband and policewoman Venica Calder were cross-examined by defence attorney Ronald Burch-Smith, while policeman Paul Tirat gave evidence. Tirat will be cross-examined when the trial resumes today.

McFarlane is accused of raping a woman as she was walking home from work at Bare Root, East Coast Demerara in 2009.
