Guyanese woman murdered in Australia, son charged

The body of Guyanese Roxane Jones – also known as Roxane Gilbert – was found in her four-wheel-drive vehicle last Saturday in Australia in an area  popular with people for walking, motorbike riding and fishing near Gladstone.

According to the Brisbane Times,  police on Tuesday charged her son 19-year-old Horace Jones with the murder and he has been remanded in custody until September 24, when he will appear before Gladstone Magistrate’s Court.

The report said that police are yet to determine how Jones died, but they believe she was killed last Friday, the day before her body was found.

The report said that Jones and her son were both born in Guyana and the pair migrated to Australia soon after the son’s birth. She has two other children, a five-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl.
