Police were dispatched to the area on Tuesday to conduct investigations. However, efforts made by this newspaper to contact the Police Public Relations Department for an update on this matter proved futile.

Meanwhile, the dead man’s wife, Hazlyn Thomas, said she has not yet been contacted by the police and was unable to visit the station yesterday. “The entire day we spent at the hospital ensuring that the body was taken down to Georgetown,” she said.

She noted that the family is trying their best to cope with Layne’s death but said that the news has taken a toll on his mother’s health.

The woman’s blood pressure was said to have skyrocketed after being informed of her son’s murder.

The man was at the time delivering fuel to Issano with only the driver of the truck when the incident occurred.

Layne’s employer, Dar (Only name given), had told Stabroek News on Tuesday evening that he would be unable to provide information at that time, since he is yet to meet with the driver of the truck.

He had said that the driver would return from the interior yesterday and would be better informed.

However, when this newspaper contacted Dar yesterday, he said that the driver had travelled to Bartica but returned hours after.

He said due to his busy schedule, he was unable to speak to him and be briefed about what had transpired.
