Port Kaituma man critical after speared by uncle

A 23-year old man is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was speared on Saturday night by his uncle reportedly after he was caught in a compromising position with a female.

A relative said that Mervin Benjamin of Oronoque, Port Kaituma was left at home with the female while his uncle, Leyland Benjamin, went out for a drink in the village. Upon returning home later that night, the elder Benjamin discovered the female in a compromising position with his nephew and picked up his spear and launched the attack.

After spearing his nephew, the man collected the female and they are reportedly on the run.

The younger Benjamin was said to have been pierced several times about the body with the most critical region being the upper left chest. After the incident, he was immediately rushed to the Port Kaituma Hospital and was later air-dashed to the GPH due to the severity of his injuries.

He underwent emergency surgery and is listed as critical. He remains a patient at the institution.
