Rupununi duo remanded over ganja trafficking, ammo casings

Two men jointly arraigned on charges of cannabis  trafficking and possession of ammunition  casings  were yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

Warren Smith and Kenny Singh denied the August 16 charge which stated that at Central Rupununi, they had in their possession 78 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

The jointly charged duo also denied the charge that they had two each of 20, 12 and 16-gauge empty ammunition casings without licence.

Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat who made an amicus curiae appearance on the defendants’ behalf said that they had no special circumstances which could be advanced for their pretrial liberty to be considered.

In the absence of a bail application, the prosecution requested that the men be remanded to prison.

Their matters will be called again on September 20 at Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
