Guyanese author launches second children’s book

Guyanese author, Maureen Rampertab, launched her second book for children, Story Time, at the National Library Conference Hall last week.

The book, which is a collection of short stories for children between the ages of 6-13, is the author’s second book for children to be launched this year. Her first book, Butterflies in Paradise, was launched in May this year.

Dayantha Mendis, a Legal and Treaty Drafting Officer attached to Caricom, who was present for the occasion informed the author that he would be purchasing some copies of the book to showcase at an annual book festival in Sri Lanka, which he hopes will assist to serve as a marketing adventure.

Story Time, as the name suggests, is a collection of 12 short stories that are based on local culture and everyday life. The book is illustrated in colour.

At the simple ceremony, Maureen said she has been writing since she was a young child and writing is something she is passionate about. Over the years she has been compiling a collection of her writings. She also noted that her inspiration for writing comes from everyday life.

The author also noted that there is a great need for support from fellow Guyanese to local authors who are trying to establish themselves. “It gives us encouragement and motivation when they support us.”

Copies of the book were expected to be available at Austin’s Book Services, this week at the cost of $1500.

The author is also expected to launch her next book, A Collection of Love Stories, in time for Valentine’s Day next year.
