Prisoner found hanging in NA prison cell

Police say that investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide of prisoner Melville Smartt, 24 years of No.1 Road, Corentyne, Berbice, who was found hanging in his cell at the New Amsterdam Prison at about 0720h today.

Smartt was serving a sentence of six months for damage to property.
