Man shot in Craig attack recovering

Morvin Marcus, who was shot and injured during the robbery of an Edun Farms truck, is showing signs of recovery and has been transferred to the Male Medical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Meanwhile a post-mortem examination will be conducted today on his colleague, Aga Khan, who was killed during the attack.

Khan, 56, of 20 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, was fatally shot to the neck by one of the four robbers during the attack carried out at Busby Dam, Craig, EBD, while 22-year-old Marcus, of Lot 714 Kaneville, Grove, EBD, was shot to the shoulder.

The bullet remains lodged near the spine.

When contacted yesterday, the wounded man’s father, Allwyn Marcus, stated that his condition is improving and he has started speaking a little. “He is shaking his hand most of the times because the words aren’t fluent,” he explained.

The man said that he is still to meet with his son’s doctors and that there is a growing concern about the bullet which is lodged near the spine. He stated that the nurses have indicated that he will be able to meet with the doctor today and that there will be discussions about whether surgery to remove it is possible at this time.

Marcus stated that he has still not received any information from the police regarding the shooting.

Stabroek News contacted the Police Public Relations Office for an update into the matter and was told to call back at a later time. However, when the call was returned, another rank indicated that she was unable to provide the information.

The police on Wednesday said that they had one man in custody as the investigation into the shooting continues. Whether this person remains in custody is unclear.
