Large waves pound seawall

Borne by high tides, waves estimated at 9.6ft in height yesterday lashed the Kitty seawall, with water splashing over the sea defences in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy.

The situation was similar to what occurred on Monday when waves disrupted some vendors who pitched stalls along the seawall for the annual Diwali motorcade. The waves yesterday affected persons who were walking along the seawall and they were forced to move on to the road instead.

A small section of the Stabroek Market which was flooded due to the high tide.

The tide is expected to be a normal level as of today, slowly decreasing in strength.

Despite the high tides, there was no sign of flooding along the East Coast, when checks were made between Georgetown and Buxton/Annandale.

Meanwhile, in the Stabroek Market a small section was flooded and efforts were underway to drain it.
