Six killed in Pomeroon boat crash

The police at 11.50 pm yesterday said that six persons died in a boat accident in the Pomeroon.

Police said that at about 1730h, December 18, 2012, a boat owned by the Region Two Administration and another owned and piloted by Harrinarine Bhagwandin, 42 years, of Adams Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, collided while travelling in the vicinity of Siriki, Upper Pomeroon River.

Six persons travelling in Bhagwandin’s boat lost their lives, while Eli Orlando, 12 years, of Adams Creek, suffered injuries and was admitted to the Charity Hospital.

The deceased are Harrinarine Bhagwandin; Velda Rodrigues, 50 years, of Adams Creek; Shawn Anthony, 14 years, of Adams Creek; Rajkumar Singh, 14 years, of Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast; his sister Amerita Singh, 10 years; and uncle Vincent Singh, 40 years, of Adams Creek.

The captain of the Region’s vessel is in custody assisting with the investigations.

None of the 13 persons who were in the Region’s boat are reported to have suffered any injuries.
