Stick-up suspect remanded

Kevin Moore, the suspect in the gunpoint robbery of a man, was yesterday denied bail after a court heard that he had pending matters in court and was a flight risk.

Moore denied the armed robbery charge when he was brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told that on December 8, Moore, armed with a gun, robbed Joseph Gomes of $40,000 in Essequibo.

Prosecutor Venetta Pindar said Moore approached the man and demanded that he hand over the cash he had one him at the time. Gomes reported the robbery and Moore was later arrested.

Despite Moore’s plea that he was innocent, Pindar asked that bail be denied since he had pending matters at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court and could be a flight risk if granted his pre-trial liberty.

As a result, he was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Mahdia court, when it will be called on January 16.
