Tension easing between Guyanese, Bajan immigration – counsel

(Barbados Nation) Tension between Guyanese nationals arriving in Barbados and Immigration authorities appear to be easing.

Guyana’s newly appointed Consul General in Barbados, Michael Brotherson, is reporting “excellent relations with the competent authorities” in Barbados after a period of repeated claims by Guyanese nationals of Immigration harassment on arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport.

Saying he could not “point to any major issue” which he found himself having to address in this early stage of his tenure, Botherson conceded that Barbados and Guyana would “from time to time have to deal with issues likely to crop up”.

But he believed the “excellent bilateral relations” the two countries enjoyed would ensure that any contentious matters were ironed out satisfactorily.
