Sixth Street, Cummings Lodge, is the main access road linking Cummings Lodge, Industry and Ogle, and it has been in a state of disrepair for the past three years. And with the current rainy weather it has gotten worse. Over the years, little or no maintenance has been undertaken on this important road by the relevant authorities. I have attached a picture that was taken on, May 20, 2012 to illustrate the current condition of one part of the road. The other parts are in a similar or even worse condition. I may mention that the there are other roads in Industry (Crown Dam) and Ogle (Community Centre Access Road) that were recently repaired before the last election. However, the authorities thought it was not necessary to fix Sixth Street Cummings Lodge. The Crown Dam road was resurfaced with asphalt but the road is still very narrow and the shoulders have already started to crumble.
I would also like to highlight the poor work done on the recently completed walkway along the University of Guyana road. You see, the walkway was constructed about eight to ten inches above the road height, with no drains or pipes to drain the excess water when it rains. So what is happening is that whenever the rain falls, all the water accumulates on the road and ultimately this will lead to an early failure of the road. I really do not know who the engineers are for these projects, but I truly believe that this is a real waste of taxpayers’ money, since the road and the walkway will have to be fixed again very soon.
I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities can fix these problems urgently.
