History calls upon you, Ralph, to lead the march

Dear Editor,

I refer to the news item `Ramkarran calls for action against ‘pervasive’ corruption’ set out at pp 16-17 of the Stabroek News of June 17, 2012. According to the article, Ramkarran, “…said that he knows of enough verifiable instances of corruption to satisfy himself that it was a pervasive problem.”

The campaign of exposing corruption is waged on behalf of the Guyanese People by Kaieteur News. It would be unfair to Kaieteur News to say that Stabroek News comes second because Stabroek News does not even feature on the horizon when Kaieteur News bears the torch before our eyes.

The opposition which enjoys the succor of taxpayers’ dollars has not, on its own initiative, bared a single noteworthy case of corruption.

I was first introduced to Mr. Ramkarran sometime in 1972 or 1973, then I was a teenager. Mr. Ramkarran had just returned from England as a lawyer.

He was introduced to a PYO Conference at Freedom House by Mrs. Janet Jagan. Since then Mr. Ramkarran has been in the bosom of the leadership of the PPP, at least 39 years.

So the corruption which exists became “pervasive” under Mr. Ramkarran’s watch. I have been reliably informed that within the PPP, he has campaigned unflaggingly against corruption. His writings in the “Mirror” are still within the PPP.

I now congratulate Mr. Ramkarran for speaking out. So too, I congratulate Ms. Nadira Jagan-Brancier who was a member of the Georgetown PYO Group in 1972. At Babu John she spat upon those who came to dishonour Dr. Cheddi Jagan by eulogizing true accolades but living false examples.

The morning after the Lusignan massacre, I went to the scene and I witnessed the descendants of East Indian Indentures spit upon Ministers of the PPP. I saw one PPP Minister slapped in the face.

I hastily returned home and I telephoned Mr. Ramkarran and I called upon him to lead a march upon  State House and lead the people to kick Jagdeo out of the Presidency.

Ramkarran told me,”… the PPP does not do things that way”.

We come now to the Presidency of His Excellency Mr. Donald Ramotar. Did he not see any of this “…pervasive corruption” before he ascended the presidency? In the six months since he became President, hasn’t the Honourable Excellency noted a single case of this “pervasive corruption”

If the Honourable Excellency has not noticed a single instance of this “pervasive corruption” then he is self indicted. If the Honourable Excellency has noted this “pervasive corruption” but has done nothing he is again self indicted. Those who hold themselves out as decent, for instance the Honourable Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, have they noted a single case of this “pervasive corruption.” Let the curtain behind which those blind to corruption may hide be removed.

Mr. Ramkarran, the self-realization of the tragic hero only begins in the writing of enlightened articles.

This “pervasive corruption” cannot be tackled from within the PPP because the

vagabonds are influential.

Guyana needs a Revolution. But alas! There cannot be a Revolution without

Revolutionaries. The leadership of the PPP has dismissed the likes of Ramkarran and Ms. Nadira Jagan-Brancier as Don Quixotes tilting at imagined windmills.

This leadership needs to see the demonstrable truth that it rules only on the basis of its perpetuating self. This status quo will not remain ad infinitum. There is a real probability that State Power may fall into the hands of worse brigands.

History calls upon you, Ralph, to lead the march upon and recapture Freedom House. You are not alone! I see in your phalanx the decent in the PPP, the People of Guyana and friends of Guyana.

Lead on Comrade!

 Yours faithfully,
 V.V. Puran
