Police powerless to deal with wedding house noise nuisance

Dear Editor,

The residents of the Enmore Blossom Scheme within a radius of over half a mile have been subject to torture from the very, very loud and incessant music emanating from a wedding house in Blossom Scheme. If speaker boxes stacked to the height of about 20 feet are any indication, one can understand what we have been enduring until 3am Sunday morning, midnight on Sunday,  and, from all appearances, into the wee hours of Monday night. In fact, a radio entertainment announcer just said on the PA that “we would be partying throughout the night.” Good Lord! Another sleepless night!

Some persons just must have it their way regardless of how others are affected. Why must hundreds of persons be affected for so long because the DJ playing the music, with the bass rattling windows and throbbing your stomach, is deaf or has ear muffs, and the host just couldn’t care less?

We have to shout in our homes to hear each other. If the same host were to have a wedding in USA or Canada, he would have to choose a venue which is soundproof so that other people are not affected. But in Guyana, the bigger or more affluent you are, the less concern is shown for fellow citizens. Especially if you have connections with senior police officers.

I and so many hundreds have hardly slept for the past two nights, and tonight (Monday) is promising to be another nightmare. I have to work tomorrow.

I am about 500 yards downwind and am severely affected. God knows what those nearer to source are experiencing. I am aware that many residents have called the Enmore Police Station to complain about the nuisance. But the ranks at the station seem powerless to offer relief. Connections in high places!

God help us from these big shots in this godforsaken country because the police will not.

Yours faithfully,
Lolita Narine
