A silhouette of the Amaila Falls project?

Dear Editor,

The case of the contract award pertaining to the construction of the specialty hospital already begins to assume the silhouette of the Amaila Falls project.  It is eerie and another instance of déjà vu.

There is the lack of specific technical expertise on the part of the winner; there is the absence of a relevant track record; there is the matter of the bids; and there is some of the same haze surrounding the process and decision.

Additionally, there is the characteristic evasion, compliments of an absurd press conference, and some studied reluctance to answer hard questions.  Of course, there was the obligatory hostility, even an attempt at intimidation.  Still, the government must be applauded for pulling off another successful media farce.

In the meantime, I suggest to the press and opposition that they focus on matters of vital national interest.  How about the price of dog food?  Or the existence of jumbies and their contribution to the local GDP?  In this way, the President will be hard pressed to claim that anyone is guilty of exaggeration of anything he does not like – especially corrupt practices.

Yours faithfully
