The President should appoint a Minister of Tourism

Dear Editor,

The press had chivalrously refrained from attacking President Ramotar for his having one Minister trying to run two important ministries – Housing and Industry, Tourism and Commerce. The press gave the President time to settle down, but now the time has come to appoint a full-time Minister for Tourism and Commerce.

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade has been going at a very slow pace, an inevitability with a part-time Minister.  It would be invidious of me to point out the many areas of that ministry which are almost non-functional. The answer is of course to appoint an adequate Minister.  The quick appointment of a new Minister of Tourism and Commerce will help to ensure the success of the PPP administration.

In passing, may I mention a very visual result of having a part-time Minister:  The front of the ministry has been suddenly splashed with very a dark, depressing and sombre colour and actually advertises the place as a zoo.  It is a horror which needs to be quickly erased. The President should appoint a full-time Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce.

Yours faithfully,
Herman Gomes
