Club committed to having Area “H” Ground pavilion repaired as early as possible

Dear Editor,

The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club takes note of a letter in your 22nd October, 2012 edition written by Mr. Imtiaz Bacchus under the caption  –  `Rose Hall Town pavilion is a safety hazard’. Mr. Bacchus who is  a very senior executive of our arch rival, Albion Cricket Club makes several statements that need to be corrected.

The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club does not have its own cricket ground but rather uses the Area “H” Ground which is owned by the Mayor & Town Council of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. The Area “H” Ground has three  pavilions not two .

We fully agree that the old pavilion is urgently in need of repairs and is a safety hazard. This pavilion was constructed in 1991 by the late President Desmond Hoyte on the request of the club but sadly the Mayor & Town Council of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice has never maintained it. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has invested millions of dollars into transforming the Area “H” ground into what it is today and over the last two years has tried unsuccessfully to get the Town Council and the Region 6 Regional Democratic Council to undertake repairs to the pavilion. We visited President Ramotar earlier this year and he has promised to assist us to do over the pavilion. The club has every confidence that he would fulfill his commitment.

What the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club finds very strange is that Mr. Bacchus would leave the safety of the two other good pavilions to sit in an unsafe one. What is even stranger is that the Port Mourant Community Centre, a sister club of Albion has a pavilion in far worse condition than the Area “H” one but Mr. Bacchus has never written about it. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club is fully committed to have the Area “H” pavilion repaired as early as possible but needs the Rose Hall Town council to wake up and play its part.

Yours faithfully,
